David joined the charity in May 2018, bringing with him extensive experience in the Third Sector. With a background in organisational management and fundraising, David manages the day-to-day operations of the charity. His areas of responsibility include Finance, Fundraising and Respite Operations. David manages the charity's key functions.
Cathy is responsible for ensuring that families living with cancer are able to book and, most importantly, enjoy valuable time together away from the stresses of the illness. Before joining the charity, Cathy enjoyed a successful marketing career working for Thorn EMI and global manufacturer 3M, prior to having a family.
Pippa works with Cathy to book respite breaks for families and individuals living with cancer. She also ensures that the beneficiary database is kept up-to-date. Before having a break from the workplace to bring up her son, Pippa worked for City law firm Norton Rose and pharmaceutical company Reckitt Benckiser.
Pam joined the charity in July 2018, bringing with her extensive experience in management and governance in the Third Sector after working for a number of local and national charities. Pam is currently responsible for managing the charity’s sailing programme and is based at our Brighton office.
Lizette van Niekerk
Lizette heads up fundraising for our sailing and ski subsidiaries (Sail 4 Cancer and Ski 4 Cancer). She was a lecturer specialising in charity marketing and fundraising and worked for a number of charities in marketing, communications and fundraising positions before joining the 4 Cancer Group. She started her career as a diplomat with the South African diplomatic service, also serving in public affairs for the government of Canada.
Charlie heads up fundraising for our cycling, running and trekking subsidiaries (Bike 4 Cancer, Run 4 Cancer and Trek 4 Cancer). Charlie started out in the Corporate world before moving to the Third Sector over 14 years ago where she has been very active. Not only has she held many voluntary positions, she has also been a Trustee for a Breast Cancer charity and also helped a variety of local charities and social enterprises in achieving their objectives.
Julie works for the charity as part time financial and office administrator. Before having a career break to start a family, Julie worked for several financial institutions in London including Peugeot Finance.
Oliver Thurlow is a Phd research student based at the University of Brighton. Oliver's role is to help the charity better understand the impact of its various respite programmes from a physiological and psychological perspective.

Graham is a community engineer and social entrepreneur. With an award winning track record, Graham has invested over £25M in joint ventures which are engineered for social impact. Until recently, Graham headed up Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility at FTSE 50 company (Legal & General Group). He is the Co-Founder of the Newhaven Regeneration Group and a Board member of the Foundation for Social Improvement, Social Investment Fund SE-Assist and Sussex Coastal Community Team. Graham is a keen sailor, cyclist and canoeist.
Pete has been a senior member of the UK travel industry for over 30 years. Pete has held a variety of senior roles at Thomas Cook and is the former Managing Director of Neilson Active Holidays (one of the charity's longest standing respite partners). Pete helps the charity to source the best commercial deals available with a wide range of travel providers. Pete is a very keen sailor and splits his time between the UK and Ireland where he has a second home.
Dr Rachel Melsom
Dr Rachel Melsom is a practicing Doctor and a Director of Tobacco Free Portfolios for the UK/Europe. Rachel's aim is to improve healthcare practitioners' understanding of the financial implications of the delivery of excellent clinical care; the need to integrate this understanding into cost effective care delivery models, including managing both the care and the precipitating factors of disease. Tobacco Free Portfolios focuses on the medical and societal cost of continued investment in the Tobacco Industry, addressing the effect of the product and the wider cost of smoking to society, encouraging Tobacco Free Investment.
A CIMA qualified accountant, Chris has held a variety of senior financial positions with a range of travel companies including Island Cruises and Virgin Holidays. Chris is currently Managing Director at TDS (Tematics Data Services), a large fleet management company based in West Sussex. Chris lives with his wife and son in Shoreham and is a keen skier and tennis player.

Sean has a varied background covering the MOD, the Royal Navy and over 20 years working in the Financial Services Industry. He is co-director of his own company, Development Garden, which provides learning solutions for individuals, teams and corporations. Sean is passionate about helping people to grow and achieve whatever their goals may be. An avid participant and watcher of sport, Sean lives in East Sussex with his family.
Andrew is a commercial lawyer by professional who helps the charity in various areas from partnerships to fundraising agreements. Previously with Linklaters and Weil, Gotshal & Manges (based in London), Andrew is a keen sailor and is originally from Melbourne in Australia.
After losing his dad to cancer, Andy decided to channel his grief into something positive. He has been raising funds to help other families affected by cancer ever since. A trained marketer by profession, Andy helps the charity with marketing and fundraising. A former competitive swimmer, Andy is also a keen cyclist and dinghy sailor (although not a very good one!)
